looking back, i see that i would not have been who i am now had i not come to the states. i felt i was at a disadvantage when i first came here, say to the ABCs because of weaker language and weaker undertanding of american culture. but now i feel i am at an advantage because i can see and appreciate the best of two worlds. so for the lack of better expression, you are neither and nor and at the same time you are both and and. Sometimes that fact makes you happy and sometimes that fact makes you frustrated.

You get some and you lose some. So when you enjoy the Cowboys or the Texans here (i am not sure which one 250 brother supports or maybe the longhorns?), you do not have the opportunity to watch premier league like people back in china do and the vice versa.

Also, i think the issues raised by 250 brother can be seen in other cases also because of lack of shared life experience, for example,

1. i was born in the 70s and still remember the days when a 9 inch b/w TV is a luxury. i bet nobody born in the 90s could relate to that even if they believe what you tell them about that time period.

2. i am from shanghai and can understand why many people do not like shanghai people and may think they're snobbish/pompous or whatever. but i could also understand why shanghai people like to socailize within themselves because they have a lot in common, the same streets they grow up, etc. For anyone who lives in shanghai long enough, one would acknowledge there is a distinctive culture and way of thinking in shanghai

3. i live in the south and bet not many New Englanders will understand many of the things the rednecks here enjoy.

Just some random thoughts on a topic that i feel having some strong identification with. i look forward to the comments from 250 brother and others.
