On Sunday, I went to another English speaking contest at the Holiday Inn here in Chongqing. The guy from the English Corner (who hit the jackpot in Vegas) wanted me to be a judge for the event and I had an awesome time. It’s always interesting to hear concepts translated differently or poorly by the Chinese. One girl talked about black people and said something along the lines of, “When I first met this black man, I didn’t know what to think but then I realized that black people are real people.” Judging is tough and, a lot of the time, extremely arbitrary. But I did my best to be as objective as possible.
