Well ... there are pros/cons living anywhere, it really depends on what's important for you: Money, Career or Quality of living ?
For US passport or GC holder, HK is not a top choice for neither Money, Career nor QL. Here is why -
Money - The new US tax law revision for American living over seas (Need to pass the 335 day test). Your over exception tax rate starts at $85001, instead of $1. Please consult a tax consultant for more details. In general, high cost cities such as HK, Singapore, Tokyo are killer destination due to this new tax rule.
Career - Most of MNs are moving their Asia HQ to Shanghai (closer to China) or to Singapore (away from China). HK is stuck in the middle and growing living under the shadow of the mainland. Upward mobility is limited in a dead location.
QL - Air quality, muggy and humid climate and land locked environment, it feels like a pressure cooker.
Plenty of posters have covered the positives working in HK, I just want to share the other side.
