it argues that Walmart has "excessive profit margin". First we are not clear whether it is gross margin or net margin. Gucci and other luxury brands have high gross margin, but not necessarily high net profit margin. In terms of gross margin, Walmart is lower than all its american competitors.
2nd, the whole story only tells you Walmart pushes down the purchase costs, while if Walmart also sell its stuff at low prices, then there is no "excessive profit" for itself at all. Any consumer in US will know that Walmart sell all kinds of stuff at the lowest prices compared with its competitors.
3rd, if this article actually implied "excessive profit" of Walmart's China Division, then clearly this article is a piece of shit without factual support, because Walmart China is in heavy loss due to gov's limitation on regions in which it can open up branches.
Most of business jouranlists back in China are idiots (except for one or two magazines or newspaper, such as Economy Observer). They do not understand what they are talking about, have no data to support their speculations (I do not even want to call that accusations) and overgeneralize with limited extreme observations.
