businessman in a sense but he made his intention quite clear at the very beginning: every cent he was making and collecting would go back to the designated charities. Personally I really really admire this American tradition. However, I also believe the "profit sharing" with employees in the first place, then to learn the so-called science of smart giving.  On the other hand, the tax regulations in the States also encourage philanthropy. By the way, for 2006 the rules have changed a bit about people donating clothes, furniture, old tv sets, etc.
