Here is another funny thing I recently heard myself from the wife of a Nobel Prize winner in economics. It is a true story.
Back in 1970s when China hasn't opened its door to the west, she and her husband visited China and had a state banquet dinner with
the late wife of Chairman Mao. At the dinner, the guests raised the wine glasses and were ready to say "Gan Bei", which means "empty your glasses". It is a Chinese custom to empty their glasses after saying 'Cheers". The Chinese translator translated loudly to their respectful visiting western guests:"Show your bottom!"
