There is some truth to the previous message - 是牲口,要身体倍儿棒,通宵熬夜永不回家的“空中飞人,基本属于高智商labor. But I encourage my fellow chinese to get into the consulting field.
a few reasons.....
1. very rewarding career path and no BS of office politics
2. highly paid and compensated (actually smaller boutique firms tend to pay better.)
3. career on fast lane if you are good (i got promotion every year almost)
4. keen on communication/presentation and packaging of yourself
5. job satisfaction in solving problems - tough ones that the full time people at your client couldn't tackle. (after all, what do you think they hire you for if they can do it themselves?)
6. very adventurous if you are exploratory and risk-taking (some people don't like it. some people love the new assignment, challenge, and excitement.)
consulting isn't for everyone for sure.
ultimately, consulting is about selling. you have to be a real good salesperson to make it to the partner level. remember after all, the products that consultants sell are themselves - the packaging is often as important as what's inside. i know sally sister is very keen on packaging and shamless self-promotion. LOL
I find consulting is very satisfying and welcome more chinese to the industry. There are not many chinese but lots of Indians and people from other backgrounds in the crowded field.
