当官就是会发财。
"Tony Blair will earn around £2 million a year in his part-time role as adviser to the Wall Street bank JP Morgan without ever having to go into the office", the Telegraph reported yesterday.
Good to see Blair has got his priorities right....
...Meanwhile the Office of Tony Blair's latest update is still dated 12 December... "still backing tourism for Palestinian economy", "pushing for economic progress", etc.
But then he is entitled to earn money, and more, wouldn't you if you had a £16,000 mortgage on your main home, plus a little extra on another house and two flats?
Tony's Bank, courtesy of the Telegraph:
IN
£5m as an advance for writing memoirs.
£2m a year for part-time advice to JP Morgan bank.
£1.2m a year in estimated (minimum) earnings from the global lecture circuit.
£117,500 a year from Combined Prime Ministerial and MP's pension.
£90,000 a year in Public Service Allowance for the costs a former Prime Minister incurs from running an office.
£2m in expected (minimum) income from other private advisory roles.
£200,000 a year as (potential) EU president.
Total £10.6m
OUT
£282,000 a year in total mortgage payments: on two properties in central London, a house in Co Durham and two flats in Bristol.
£200,000 a year in office running costs.
£100,000 a year in costs providing for children while at school and university.
£25,000 a year for the cost of a live-in nanny for seven-year-old Leo.
Total £607,000
Anyway with so many jobs in hand - and perhaps, who knows, the future president of Europe (which will see me taking to the streets in protest...) it must be hard to keep up with the Mideast part-time job.
And there must be a lot of advising to do at JP Morgan...
...Even though at the mention of a return to centre stage as president of Europe - a position to be filled after a vote by EU leaders later this year -, one of Blair's spokesmen - not sure from which job - said Mr Blair remained "fully focused" on his job as a Middle Peace Envoy...
...and even though the Telegraph says in its article that "EU officials said there would be no barrier to Mr Blair becoming the first EU President of the Council of Ministers while advising private sector companies at the same time"...
Meanwhile JP Morgan yesterday announced the purchase of Northern Rock's portfolio of Lifetime home equity release mortgages for £2.25 billion cash...
Gordon Brown will be happy about the possible reversal of fortunes for the embattled bank.
Unless it was Blair's good advice already at work which did it... something we know it's not true since Tony Blair remains "fully focused" on his job as Middle Peace Envoy...
And the rhetoric was back this morning:
"Sure, it is absolutely possible to have a peace deal by the end of the year if people want to make it happen".
"I think given the determination there is to succeed and given the desire on the part of the American leadership, the Israeli leadership, the Palestinian leadership to see it happen, I think people could be surprised this year".
"There is no alternative but to push forward and to do so with determination".
Make it Happen - Blue-sky thinking anyone?
Perhaps just a suggestion of the emptiness of the skies?...
Make it happen! but can we do it? Yes we can!!
