I don't have any thing to say regarding your reasoning ( I have a totally different framework), but kind of agree to your conclusion about inflation and depression, and especially the ensuing turmoil in social systems and world peace ...
However, I have a different 2cent's worth of opinion regarding the very frequently quoted "buying guns" prescription: it's too damn rhetorical and has little practical value.
Here is a piece of more practical advice: for those who have the means (those who need guns to protect themselves in social hard times): prepare your family by getting ready to be mobile. e.g. Move to Sydney from San Jose in one month's preparation.
When your neighborhood is in trouble, there are many corners of the world still bathing in lazy sunshine, it's just a matter of whether you have the means to move. For that you need to take care of (be prepared with):
1) real estate -- if your wealth is mainly in your house, you can't move;
2) liquid asset -- if you don't have 2-5 years living expense for the whole family in liquid asset, you can't move.
3) career path -- if your main income is from your job, you can't move.
4) kid's education -- when you need guns to protect your family, guess you'll be happy to get your kids out of the neighborhood anyhow, so this is no drag.
5) a good passport -- those accepted widely without visa process, like Canadian, US, etc.
These factors are difficult for ordinary white collar families to overcome, but not for those with reasonable means to tackle.
So prepare the right way if you want to be prepared.
Disclaimer: this advice does not apply to those who buy guns to rob their neighbor. Only to those who protect themselves FROM neighbor.
