Help us learn about technology users. Google is looking for a senior User
Experience Researcher to design and conduct user research studies across the product cycle, from the concept phase to post-launch evaluation. The researcher we're looking for will be highly skilled in a range of research methods and will have significant experience working on discovery research for new web-based applications. The researcher we are looking for should have an advanced degree (masters or Ph.D.) in a related field and a minimum of 2 years experience carrying out and/or supervising research on web-based products in an applied setting.

Google researchers work in close collaboration with designers, product managers, marketing staff and engineers to build products with a close focus on the needs of real users. The ideal candidate for this job will have outstanding communication skills and will be able to demonstrate the ability to incorporate design research into the overall product cycle. As the a researcher in our Beijing office, the ability to work successfully with interdisciplinary teams is essential. The ability to explain the fundamentals of research practice to non-specialists, and to drive change based on research findings are also critical to success in this role. The ideal candidate for this role will be very comfortable leading workshops and presentations with both specialists and non-specialists.

We're seeking researchers who will be comfortable with a range of projects
including hands-on research, participation in product reviews, and strategic
research planning. Fluency in Mandarin and English are requirements. Additional language knowledge is desired.

As a researcher in Google's Beijing office, you will have the opportunity to
work on products of many types, including many that may be familiar to you and some that are not. While some research on web-based products and services is preferred, those whose primary research experience is in software or hardware are also invited to apply.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate a successful track record (at least two years of experience) in these areas:

* Laboratory-based usability evaluation
* Experimental design
* Sampling for qualitative research

Additionally, candidates for this position should be able to demonstrate
significant knowledge of and/or experience in two of the following areas:

* Accessibility and universal design
* Creation of personas
* Field-based research techniques, such as ethnography
* Analysis of web server log data
* Summative evaluations or benchmarking of technological products
* Management of outsourced user research projects
* Participatory design techniques
* Testing applications for mobile devices
* On-line communities and social computing
* Survey research
* Remote testing


While we assume that most qualified applicants will have a and advanced degree in a relevant research field, we welcome applications from research
practitioners whose qualifications have come from less traditional paths. If
you've acquired your expertise in user research through non-academic means, or through non-traditional courses, please include a note explaining your how
you've come to be part of the research field.
