General Motors is going back to the pool of original bidders for its Hummer unit, after a deal to sell after plans to sell the brand to China’s Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery fell through, according to press reports.
According to The Wall Street Journal, which first reported the news that G.M. was revisiting previous bidders, the auto maker is considering offers from two unnamed bidders who had previously made moves for the unit, but had been turned down.
However, Reuters reported that G.M. has reached out to at least four Chinese companies. Two, the news service said, had expressed interest in buying only part of Hummer’s assets last year, such as tooling and equipment at G.M.’s Hummer plant in Shreveport, Lousiana. The other two had made offers for the brand, according to the report.
G.M. said on Wednesday it would shut down Hummer after Tengzhong’s $150 million bid to buy the money-losing brand collapsed. At that time G.M. said it would continue to entertain viable offers early in the wind-down process.
