The dramatic growth of applications has spawned a series of difficult privacy challenges. The questions are not only legal -- when can apps pass information to third parties -- but also technical: How can apps developers design privacy into their products? What should be best practices for controlling the flow of data from users to platforms, apps and third parties?

To begin the process of answering these questions, you're invited to join us for PrivacyAppCamp, a free event where developers and privacy experts can interact and help each other build the future of privacy in the apps space. Modeled on our successful PrivacyCamp "unconferences," this event will be a day long, open-format forum specifically designed to engage developers in the process of producing an effective, flexible, and technologically-relevant privacy framework for applications.

Join us on February 10th at Google's Mountain View campus for a chance to meet other technologists and privacy advocates who share the desire to protect privacy while also developing exciting, and profitable, applications for social networking, mobile, and other platforms.

We'll meet in the morning to determine the day's agenda and topics, and then break into groups for sessions. The goal is to identify best practices to aid application developers across all platforms in designing privacy for their apps, with ideas for practical implementations of this framework. We’re looking for volunteers to help get the conversation started on the PrivacyCamp blog. If you’re interested, please contact [email protected]. Posts can contain everything from programming ideas, to conceptual observations and anecdotes.
