Dear jLink:
Thanks a lot for taking time post your experience and suggestions. It really helps for me to make decision at this stage.
I do have a contract stating the temporary purpose of my work in China. It will last 2-3 years to build and manage a large supply chain management system. It may lead to other opportunities after that but I think I should be able to apply citizenship by then. BTW, you may apply for citizenship only 90 days before holding green card for 5 years (not sure when the law got changed). Because of my concerns of retaining green card, this Chinese company does allow me to come back every 4-5 months to work from home for a little while.
I also face other challenges such as bring money back to the US and filing China and US tax returns. The company can pay in US dollars but they can't help me to transfer money to my bank in the US. Do you have any experience on this? Any comments will be greatly appreciated.
I will be working in Beijing/Tianjin area. Hopefully you are the same.
