Marriage license is a contract. A typical case is one side sacrfices his/her time, money, and energy to support the spouse. It's not fair for the spouse just to walk away.
If there were no such a contract, nobody would assume to unconditionally increase his/her own profit from the increased shared profit, so he/she may choose not to sacrifice his/herself for increasing the shared profit, unless he/she is willing to lose his/her effort when the otherside walks away. Now whatever you do -- divorce or stay, it's fair to both sides.
If you want the flexibility of walking away, don't get married because it's a promise you can't keep. If you promise, keep it. If you make a mistake by getting married and you regret 10 years later, you are out of luck either way. Many of us are in the last situation, I assume.
