Like I said, over half of the people are employed by small business, giving loans to big companies aren't going to alleviate the credit pressures on them, also the consumer credit cost are not going to drop just because the Boeing got 10 billion dollars.
This is a liquidity issue, or rather a confidence issue. Banks right now don't want to loan to anyone (big or small). The small business that need that line of credit to meet the payroll each month aren't going to get a better rate because AA got 5 billion. Not when the banks can't even guarantee their own liquidity.
The problem is not we are missing 100 billion from the credit market, its we have no movement, even a relative small number in the overall economy. Its the willingness to lend is what needs fixing, that can't be fixed simply by taking care of the top 500. That's not even mentioning the different type of need for each of the 500, a lot of them are in fact cutting because demand is dropping. So what you get in the end, fix their balance sheet a bit and make sure they don't go out of business?
The other big problem is the timing, if your idea were to work (which I doubt) would take a long time to implement, since there is no single market to distribute the funds. And it would take even longer to trickle down to the small businesses and consumers. By then we could be in depression already. By tackling the problem at its roots cause, i.e. bank liquidity, you would have a better chance or improve things before too later. Again I don't even know this is going to work.
Maybe I come from the wall st perspective, at least I understand the problem, which doesn't look like you do.
Oh and I haven't even talked about the multi-trillion CDS market that can blow up which you plan wouldn't address at all.
