Glad to hear my analysis is helpful to you. I enjoy reading articles from the board but do not always have time to post. To play devil's advocate, I will list my views on your points: 1) Typically, brand is built with years of quality work. In this case, it is related to "percentage of students passing national college entry exam". This is probably the most convincing way to justify higher tuition and expenses. Another quicker way is to tell parents some of your students can go to U.S or U.K for college. You need to establish relationship between the school in China and a GOOD U.S college. If you position your school in later way, you must realize you are offering your service to a much smaller but more affluent segment. To justify it, you need to do a careful market assessment. 2)Government will always support a project like this whether there is a market for it or not. I have no doubt the county's schools are overpopulated. The question is how many people are willing to pay much higher tuition to go to your school? 3)JV means Joint Venture. I am not sure how to answer your question here. But let me be very frank: NO, do not do it unless you want to throw your money away. Go there first and see it yourself. Talk to people on the street and see if they are willing to pay extra to send their kids to your school. And why? What is their most concerns? Study earning powers in the county. How many people potentially can afford your tuition? How many people in the surrounding areas can afford? If your school is a boarding school, then the area could be much larger. Otherwise it is dependent on public transportation. 4) I would not trust the projection blindly. First thing you want to ask is where they come up these numbers. Secondly, think about what is your back-up plan if the school can not generate positive cash flow.
I remember my former boss asked me a question when I first presented my very first deal years ago. He said "would you like to run the company someday and do you want to work with those people"? Think about the question. IF both answers are positives, do it.
