就知道那是什么定义了。
俺再抄一点来:
“礼”,politeness
COURTESY and urbanity of manners。Politeness is a poor virtue, if it is actuated only by a fear of offending good taste, whereas it should be the outward manifestation of a sympathetic regard for the feelings of others. It also implies a due regard for the fitness of things, therefore due respect to social positions; for these latter express no plutocratic distinctions, but were originally distinctions for actual merit.
We may reverently say, politeness "suffereth long, and is kind; envieth not, vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up; doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh so not her own, is not easily provoked, taketh not account of evil."
当然,“礼”也不是什么非常重要的,排头一两位的东东。
Confucius himself has repeatedly taught that external appurtenances are as little a part of propriety as sounds are of music.
JT能说找到比这个更好的说法吗?
(嗯,这是站在赞扬立场上的。要是批判,当然能批很多了)。
