Because the phone is locked by T-Mobile! Though only stupid American carries do that, you have to unlock it before you can use it with other carries' sim card, even in US. The easist way to do it is go to www.ebay.com, and buy a unlock service, you just need to input a series number under the instruction you bought from EBay. Good luck!
