especially no bond funds to me! Briefly I am giving you two reasons: 1)Conventional wisdom says when interest rate is going down, you buy bonds to lock in the rates/yields at the higher level for years. Right now the rates have been up all this year and the Fed is not done with it yet. If I remember correctly, some of my friends bought tons of 30 year Treasury Bonds with a yield of 18%!! Yes, 18% for 30 years. As a matter of fact you don't need to wait several decades to retire; you may retire today at 28 or 30 years old? if financially you can afford and if you choose to of course. Then you may buy a condo on ModernBlvd.or 莫挟路(tooth+ear) (sorry i am sweating on pinyin.sxxt, shame on me). Anyway, it costs 8000 to 10000rmb per sq mt. on M. Blvd, but the price is half on that "sword maker" road. I love some part of this road around the small river;
2)If you buy bond fund, you may need to get out to redemption at a loss at the wrong time, because you have no control what kinds of bonds the fund mgt. may buy, t bill? note? t bonds? corporate ones? municipal ones? etc.short, mid. or long terms? My advice is if you choose to buy bills, notes, and bonds, buy for yourself. You may choose to buy some at one year, some with three years and five years, some with ten years or more, so that if the rates keep going up, you can free up some cash to lock in at the higher yields. Of course you will not sell bonds at a loss because you know exactly when you will sell, AT THE MATURE DAYS ONLY.
My one cent.
