In New York, every train/subway/bus is air conditioned. It is ridiculous to compare summer in New York with Summer in Chonqing. I used to take the bus and ferry to NJ after 9.11. (I was afaid to take the PATH train) It was a quite pleasant commute especially in Summer. Most time I have a seat on the bus, and the ferry is basically a free tour of downtown.
Not to mention that New York life is not the typical American life...
