i do know there are many french guys settled down (for now and god knows for how long) at guilin and at dali. it is simply because of two things: 1) dirt cheap 2) life style of warry free...see those in old chinese paintings the bufflo and big trees and naked boys play around the water...? i still saw them like that around lyangshuo.
if you know you are going to be able to enjoy this, heck go for it. or if you know it is worht it just go for it for now and figure out what later...
i agree with the other amigos: life is not about money. wanna get laid, go to minority regions where bai ethnic groups traditional region or tibetan region...you will love it
