I think china has dominated global consumer product markets with the low labor costs. These kinds of products may not require much skills since most are purely assembly work. But unskilled labor, no matter how abundant and cheap, can not be used in sophisticated machinery /instrument/ equipment industries. In these fields, China is far behind other leading nations, esp., German and Japan.
