i have been having a discussion like this with many non chinese immigrants who are also epxloring the same. the first one raised the question to me came to usa from denmark decades ago, never regreted to have become u.s. citizen until he retired....i got to know him 17 years ago, and thus have always doubted the rationale to become a u.s. citzen since then although i have been on my second green card for a while. i still have no answers to that one

in fact, lately, there ar esome serious legal implications to that decision too

if you go back to china as a u.s. citizen, with your obligations to the us authorities, while you are on chinese terriorty and subject to the jurisdiction of that judicial system, you really know what you are getting yourself into when the sino-us relationship becomes...well instable?

good thing is now there is a small but growing community in china that are oceaseas chinese returnees, perhaps that would be where we feel more comfortable to be around...?

on the other hand, the question is deeper: being a chinese we carry certain chinese value, but then after N years of residence in another country of totally different values...what does that mean to us and to others?

i am pretty comfortable where i am, but looking ahead, the uncertainly is what i am not confortable with: at the pace china is changing, you do not know what is waiting there ahead of you?
