Thanks for sharing your experience with us! I really appreciate it.
I have been working in US (Boston area) for 6 years and with several companies, ranging from dozen people startup to MNC. The prolems you observed in that Chinese startup are also common in some of the startups I worked for. Because of lack of money and resources and urgency to get products to the market, startups tend to get things done ASAP, so those good practices, such as project planning, prod. mgmt, documentation, market research etc, are put to very low priorities. I'd say this strategy works not bad when a company's size is still quite small, say, dozens of employees. It can get things done quickly although not so perfcetly, and can react to market change nimbly. The downside, as we all can see, is that it's not scalable, and manageable when biz grows. Because you were a newcomer and only a mid-manager, I can see your frustration in trying to change the company culture and process. It'd be exciting if you can build your dream company from ground up.
Couple questions:
* Why there's communication problems? They all speak Chinese. Is it because of the company culture which discourage people from commuicating effectively * How's the teamwork there?
Thanks.
